Personal Security and the Bodyguard

Personal Security

Modern society’s obsession with Social Media is nothing short of spectacular. Our constant desire to interact on line can come with professional and personal security safety hazards.

There is no better example of this than the current buzz story regarding Kim Kardashian in Paris. One would think that Kim with all her entourage of bodyguards (who were not present on the night of attack but out protecting younger sisters Kourtney and Kendall at the local nightclub), trainers, cooks, friends, Kanye and PA’s would pretty much have made her untouchable. But this month’s headline proved this to be the contrary.

The go to tools that have helped Kim build her personal brand, her fortune may well have been the contributors in her terrifying ordeal. Ironically prior to the robbery, that night Kim worked on her personal brand and fortune utilising social media, which more than likely made it even easier to track and anticipate her next move.

There truly is no such thing in being invisible online nor safe. Once personal data gets posted online, unless you delete it, it’s an open market for the layman, a free for all.

We at Titanium Security are aware of this therefore when it comes to personal security, bodyguard work, we help the client stay safe in applying simple, logical and practical rules when assisting with personal security. Some top of mind rules that may keep you safe (and possible sane);

  1. Switch off mobiles completely. Bodyguards are vigilant on the ground, on the job but a bodyguards job can be made more difficult when they have to compete with a mobile phone tracking their and their clients movements. Obviously this is job dependent, and at times this it is not possible to switch off phones, but if you must post your daily news online, one should do it in the security and privacy of home/office with the geo-tracking device switched off.
  2. Use a pre-paid phone when requiring the ultimate in personal security ensuring that your normal mobile cannot be tracked.
  3. Do not check in when you are wanting to get away from it all. Give it a rest!
  4. Keep some details to yourself – not everyone needs to know and see the whole picture. It doesn’t take long to piece all the pieces together.
